About the Author

Jesse Abarca Jr., was born in the hills of Monterrey, Mexico. At the age of six months, he crossed the border at Laredo, Texas one cold December in 1955. Nine years later, he entered the publishing world as a paperboy, selling and delivering the Houston Chronicle.
"Charlie Brown was my favorite comic strip," says the new author, who was a fixture along Main Street for six years. "Being a paperboy in the 60's was an adventure all its own, one I soon plan to write about."
A love of reading led to a collection of 1,300 comic books. With all those stories swirling through his head, Dodie the Dodo Bird was born.
Jesse is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. He is married to his high school sweetheart and has three children plus five grandchildren. He recently retired after 25 years as a city inspector to pursue his new publishing career.
